Many cooker hoods have a filter-saturation indicator (a light or icon) that reminds you to clean the grease filters after a set number of hours’ use. If it stays on even after cleaning, the fix is almost always about how you reset it, not a fault with the hood.
What to check first
- Check your model’s specific reset method in the manual — this varies significantly between brands and even between models from the same brand, and is usually a specific button held for several seconds (sometimes with the hood switched off first), not simply pressing it once.
- Make sure you’ve actually cleaned or replaced the correct filter type for your model — some hoods have both a washable metal grease filter and a separate, non-washable carbon filter (recirculating models), and the indicator light may be tracking the carbon filter’s replacement schedule rather than the grease filter’s cleaning schedule.
- If you’ve genuinely cleaned the filter and followed the correct reset sequence but the light stays on, try isolating the hood from power for a few minutes to let the control board fully reset.
When to call an engineer
If the correct reset procedure (confirmed against your manual) genuinely doesn’t clear the indicator, the control board’s filter-timer sensor may need attention — a low-priority fault, since it doesn’t affect extraction performance, but worth mentioning to an engineer if they’re already visiting for something else.
