LG washing machine OE, UE and IE error codes explained

This is a common, low-risk check most people can do safely. Always unplug the appliance (or isolate power) before touching internal parts.
LG’s own official support documentation confirms these three codes cover most LG washing machine faults, and — usefully — each points to a genuinely different area of the machine.
OE — drain error
The machine can’t drain the water from the tub. Check the pump filter (bottom-front, behind a small access flap on most models) for coins, hair ties, and fluff, and check the drain hose isn’t kinked or clogged.
UE — unbalanced load
The load is too unevenly distributed for the machine to spin safely. Open the door, redistribute the load evenly, and pair single bulky items (a duvet, a pair of trainers) with a few towels rather than washing them alone.
IE — water inlet error
The machine isn’t detecting enough incoming water within the expected time. Check the tap supplying the machine is fully open, and check the inlet hose and its mesh filter for kinks or a build-up of grit and limescale.
When to call an engineer
For OE, if the filter and hose are clear and the code persists, the drain pump has likely failed. For UE, if a genuinely balanced load still triggers it repeatedly, worn suspension components may be the cause. For IE, if supply and filter are fine, the water inlet valve may need replacing. All are routine parts for an appliance engineer.
