Water continuing to flow from an electric shower after you’ve switched it off is a genuine fault worth acting on promptly — both for the obvious water wastage and because it suggests the unit’s internal valve isn’t behaving as it should.
What’s safe to check yourself
- Confirm you’re using the correct control to switch it off — some units have a separate temperature dial and an on/off lever or button; turning the temperature down to its lowest setting isn’t the same as switching the unit off.
- Check the pull-cord isolator switch — switching off there should always fully stop flow regardless of what’s happening at the unit’s own controls, and confirms whether the fault is in the unit’s valve specifically or something else.
- Note whether the flow is a strong continued stream or just a slow drip/trickle after switching off — a slight drip for a few seconds as pressure equalises can be normal; a strong continued flow is not.
If switching off at the pull-cord isolator stops the flow, at least you have a working way to control it in the meantime, but the shower’s own solenoid valve has likely stuck or failed and needs professional attention. Don’t attempt to open the unit casing to investigate the valve yourself — this needs a qualified electrician given the combination of water and mains electrical components involved.
