Oven interior light not working (all brands)

An oven interior light that’s stopped working, while the oven itself still heats and cooks normally, is one of the simplest and safest oven faults to fix yourself — almost always just a blown bulb.

What to check first

1. Switch off and unplug the oven, or isolate the power, and let it cool fully before touching the light fitting.
2. Locate the light lens cover inside the oven cavity (usually a small glass or plastic dome, often top corner or side wall) and unscrew or twist it to remove — check your manual if it’s not obvious, as the release mechanism varies by brand.
3. Replace the bulb with the correct oven-rated type and wattage for your model — oven bulbs are specifically rated to withstand high heat, so a regular household bulb isn’t a safe substitute.
4. Refit the lens cover securely, since it protects the bulb from grease and moisture during cooking.

When to call an engineer

If you’ve fitted a correct replacement bulb and the light still doesn’t work, the light socket wiring or the switch that activates it may have failed — this is mains electrical work inside the oven cavity and needs a qualified engineer or electrician rather than further DIY.
